Porto is the second-largest city in the country and the one that gave Portugal its name. Also known as “Invicta”, because it was never conquered after the Moors took it in 715, it’s located in the northwest of the country and is characterized by the numerous bridges that allow crossing the Douro River. Situated near the coast, it has a great connection with the sea and its inhabitants have been called “tripeiros”. In 1415, they donated all the meat to the armada that left to conquer Ceuta, keeping only the entrails to eat, which originated the “Tripas à Moda do Porto”, one of the most traditional dishes of this region.
Its people are known for their friendliness and humility, always showing great pride in their origins. When visiting this city, tourists can always count on being well-received and treated as if they were from here.
